This 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Fixed Head Coupe is a smart example of a perennially popular British classic, which has been kept in sound mechanical order and presents in very good condition throughout. Under the bonnet is the 4. 2-litre straight-six engine, which produces up to 265bhp and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The odometer currently indicates 52000 miles.

First registered in January 1970 as ‘HFC 1’, this right-hand drive E-Type left the factory in Signal Red with a black interior. It was initially restored in the late 1980s by Martin Robey Engineering, and the indicated mileage is believed to be correct. It has been with its current keeper for two years.

The distinguished bodywork of this Series 2 is in good order, and comes finished with resprayed Signal Red paintwork. The condition of the finish is very good. The vehicle rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels, which are in superb order.

The cabin still features its original black leather upholstery, which has some creasing and surface cracking, but no visible rips or other significant damage. A couple of light marks can be seen in the door cards, though the black carpets and leather dashboard top are in excellent condition, along with the three-spoke steering wheel and gear knob. The dashboard panel has the full complement of Smiths instrument gauges, which display a charming patina, and the bank of rocker switches is also in good order. There are no known faults with any of the buttons or other electrical items.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in 2020, where technicians at Moonwhizz Ltd in Ashtead overhauled the gearbox, carried out an engine oil service, and changed the brake fluid. During the last keeper’s custody, the car has also been fitted with a new starter motor, fuel pump, washer fluid tank, engine bay leads, upgraded carburettors and a new dual fan aluminium radiator. The Car has been looked after by JD Classics for the past 6 months.

This E-Type is exempt from an annual MOT under historic car status, with the last test occurring on 1 February 2018 at 49, 898 miles, which resulted in a failure due to a deteriorated ball joint dust cover, excessive play in the offside rear anti-roll bar, and a split in the nearside steering rack gaiter - these items were subsequently rectified at the time. The wheels come wrapped with Avon Radial Steel tyres, which are in very good condition.

This Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4. 2 Fixed Head Coupe is a generally superb example of the beloved classic, which benefits from a characterful straight-six engine, a refurbished gearbox, and a prior extensive restoration in the late 1980s. While the next owner could choose to make some minor improvements, this is a wonderfully usable sporting coupe as-is, presenting with a vibrant paint finish and a beautifully aged interior.
