If you are an explorer who fancies more adventure, there is no shortage of exciting things to do and beautiful places to visit in the areas immediately surrounding Puerto Cayo.
Despite its small size, the town of Puerto Cayo itself is home to several small grocery stores, bakeries, hardware stores, butcher shop, barber shops, hairdressers, gas station, a car wash and many other amenities - all within minutes of each other. There are also many restaurants and cabañas within the city center as well as pharmacies and a medical clinic nearby. Puerto Cayo has everything you need and then some, from good food to good fun. You will also find that the town is very safe, and the people are very friendly which is not surprising given the pleasant climate and slow-paced way of life here.

Should you wish to explore the region’s natural beauty even further, you can head south into Machalilla National Park, which includes Los Frailes, one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Ecuador. Further South, you will encounter Agua Blanca, an incredible place to learn about pre-Colombian art, get a free mud mask before soaking in the sulfur pool, enjoy one of their three types of massages, and hike the surrounding forest. An additional 10 minutes South, you will be in Puerto Lopez where you can catch tours to Isla de la Plata, also known as “The poor man’s Galapagos” and take guided tours of the island on a couple of different hiking trails. This incredible place is home to a large diversity of animal species including the blue-footed booby, red-footed booby, albatross, pelican and the South American sea lion just to name a few.
