History - Curlew Rise is part of a rich heritage of farming and rural life. Along the valley of Newland, small rural industries existed at the turn of last century that utilised the water power of the river, Newland Beck. Curlew Rise is situated in a hamlet at Bowstead Gates that was made up of small farm houses, a milking parlor, byre and barn. Curlew Rise has been built out of the ruins of the byre and been completely reconstructed to the designs of an architect into a newly built well insulated home. The construction demonstrates how local vernacular architecture and construction detailing should be built into rural buildings.

Curlew Rise - Since being completed in 1998, Curlew Rise has been used as a second home and as a holiday let. With increasing pressure on the central lakes, visitors more and more appreciate the unspoilt beauty and quieter South Lakes and lets have increased as a result.
